Worship Commission

Opportunities for spiritual nourishment, educational enrichment, and service to all humankind in God’s name await all seekers in Christ at St. Francis. In 1st Corinthians 12:4, Saint Paul teaches us about gifts of the spirit, “...To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good…” We process out from the church and into the world following worship, praise and nurture, carrying within our hearts forgiveness and hope through Word and be a source of God’s love. The following are some of the ministries designed to nurture parishioners as we serve our Lord in gladness with care in action on our spiritual journeys.

Worship Committee

The Worship Committee assists the Rector in planning and coordinating worship services throughout the year, especially for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Holy Week and provides support to the Rector on liturgical matters as needed.  The Worship Committee consists of the Rector, Verger, Acolyte Director, Altar Guild Chair, Worship Volunteer Coordinator, Director of Music and two members of the Vestry.

The Verger is a lay person who assists the Rector in the planning and conduct of services in the church, especially the lay participation.

Vested young people and adults light the liturgical candles, assist the celebrant at the altar during the worship services, and precede the clergy and choir in the processionals as cross bearers, torch bearers and banner bearers.  They learn, they act, they give.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild is a ministry of hearts and hands in devotion to our Lord and to the Glory of God.  Members of the Altar Guild assume the responsibility for preparing the church for every worship service and liturgical celebration.  The Altar Guild prepares the altar and the sanctuary for all services within the church.  Members of this group prepare the vestments, sacred vessels and other requisites for worship.  This is also a good opportunity for young people to learn about the altar and the things required for worship.

Worship Leaders

There are a variety of ways to be part of the Liturgy (work of the people) at St. Francis.  Members of St. Francis serve as Greeters to welcome everyone, especially visitors, to our services; as Ushers to assist people coming into the church or at various other occasions during the service; as Lectors reading the lessons and the Prayers; as Eucharistic Minister assisting the rector and serving the Chalice at the Eucharist.  The Scheduler schedules those people who have identified their interest in serving in one or more of these capacities for our various services.

The Adult Choir sings at the second service each Sunday and at other special services. Choir rehearsal is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings.
